My Food Philosophy

I could tell you about the time my husband decided to eat nothing but beans & rice for a month. “That’s all people eat in third world countries,” he casually explained.

Or I could tell you about the three months I didn’t eat wheat, corn, soy, dairy, coffee, chocolate, or meat. All at the same time.

I have a love hate relationship with making meals. I love eating healthy yummy food, but I don’t love spending alot of time on it.

All my life I’ve struggled with hyperinsulinemia (similar to hypoglycemia) so I can’t eat alot of junk food or sugar. I also have had food allergies. So my food journey is constantly evolving.

I’m also vegetarian.

BUT in the midst of that  I’ve developed a simple easy approach to food.

Meals should be SIMPLE, HEALTHY and under 20 minutes to prepare.

I also sparingly use wheat, corn, soy and other ultra processed foods, which is great if you’re like me looking for other options.

I’m not a chef. I’m a busy mama entrepreneur who prefers many other activities to cooking. But I DO care about healthy food. And I love helping other people come up with quick healthy food solutions! I’m excited to share and hopefully inspire you to eat clean, simple and healthy. 🙂

My hope is that these posts will be an encouraging place where we can all learn from eachother!

Seven Essential Tips for Working With Your Spouse

I get the question all the time. And it usually goes a little something like this.

““You work with your husband? Ohmygoodness! You are so lucky!”

OR “You work with your husband? Wow, I could NEVER work with my husband. We would drive eachother crazy!”

Some of you know that I actually started working with Lukas in his photography business before we were ever married.

In fact, before we were even dating. Yep…you could even say…that I married my boss. GASP! It’s true. Two months after he hired me, we started dating. 18 months later he decided he wanted to quit paying me, so he proposed. ; )

For the past eight years we have worked together and hardly left eachother’s side. So how is that, really?!!

To be honest, working with my husband is AWESOME!!!

I get to be with him most of the time, and I feel so blessed because all the time most hubbys spend at work away from their wives, I get!

There are however,  real difficulties. There are complicated dynamics that come into working together. Imagine any work conflicts you have had with coworkers, and imagine that with your husband.

Sensitive situations will be even more sensitive. Disagreements in work situations will definitely seep into your home life.

You can’t leave conflict at the nine to five. Home won’t be a respite.

Through the years, these are our tried and true essential tips to help us avoid conflict and make for a HAPPY work and home environment!!

Seven Essential Tips For Working With Your Spouse
1. Have clear cut job descriptions
2. Communicate and have the same expectations on how long things should take and how they are to be done
3. Have “close ended” jobs – jobs where you’re not waiting on the other person
4. Be humble, teachable, encouraging, and honest
5. Have boundaries on work time and “us” time
6. Set short term and long term goals and make plans on how to achieve them
7. Pray together often!
