The past month has been a blur – but a happy, learning alot- blur! With weeks full of God teaching me and loving on me. I had the joy of attending the Pursuit Conference a few weeks ago in GA, and last week I was at the Showit United Conference in AZ. I purposefully took some time off of blogging to be present during those events, and I’m excited to now to get to tell you a little about my trip!
Pursuit… where do I start. I’ve had the privilege of being a part of the Pursuit Conference from the very first one. God has used the conference and the community to stretch me in HUUUUGEEE ways. It’s more than just the inspiring talks (which are SUPER good!). For me, it’s all about the conversations. Hearing what God has done in women’s lives across the country. Hearing how women have gotten saved.
And hearing the sometimes devastating situations that women are in even now, and getting a chance to pray with them.
It’s the conversations that makes it gold.
Every year I walk away with at least one conversation on my heart. And I did have some amazing ones. But this year I walked away thinking about my OWN conversation, a conversation I had with God.
I begged God that week to give me more intimacy with Him, to teach me how He cares for me in the little things as well as the big things. That He is NEAR me.
And He answered my prayer. In a funny little way that just shows how much He loves to give good gifts to His children.
You see, this year Lukas & I were hanging out in the vendor room alot and there was this amazing shop across from us named Persimmon Prints. And there was this adorable black tank top that said “Love God and Serve Others” that I just wanted so badly! Each morning when I walked in there I saw the shirt and wanted it! But you see, Lukas and I are about to go on a missions trip for two months and we are trying not to spend money on anything right now unless we really need it. So I saw the shirt, and wanted it, and walked away.
The last day of the conference, I was talking to my friend April, when someone else walked up and I got to meet a sweet new friend, Stephanie. Stephanie was wearing the shirt that I had been eyeing all week. “Oh, I LOVE that tank top!” I mentioned. She looked at me and said, “What size are you?” “Medium probably” I replied. She said she would be right back, and went to her room, while I looked at April with a puzzled expression. A moment later she returned holding out a second “Love God and Serve Others” tank top toward me.
“Here, when I bought mine they put an extra in my bag and it’s a medium! It’s for you!” I was so surprised, I took it from her hand, and thanked her. Then I said my auto response- something like how God was good… when it hit me.
God IS good. So often I say it as a blanket statement over something good in my life. And in the moment I do mean it… But the realization hit me that God is PERSONALLY good to me! He lavishes me with good things! He sees me and cares about all my little needs. And that little tank top, that I didn’t need but wanted, was a little glimpse of that. I got tears in my eyes as I stopped and said to April and Stephanie, “No, God is REALLY good.”
God is a big God and He uses all sorts of situations to teach us truth about Himself. And now every time I wear this tank top (which has been basically every day, haha!), I think of how God answered my prayer that week and showed me His intimate lavish love for me.
Here are some verses I’ve been meditating on to spur me on in understanding God’s great LOVE & NEARNESS.
“…And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” Ephesians 3:17-19
“The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.” Psalm 145:18
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13
“Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.” Psalm 34:8
“Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you…My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever…it is good to be near God.” Psalm 73:26-27
Maybe you’re in a place right now where you long for more intimacy with God. Maybe you’re reading the Bible every day but feel like it’s more of a checklist than a relationship. Dear friend, keep reading His Word, but also BEG Him for deeper intimacy. To see His good and amazing and gracious character! And to see His intimate LOVE toward YOU! Keep asking, and keep hungering. For He alone satisfies.
